We have all heard the hype surrounding fish oil in the recent years, from “the wonder supplement” to “the miracle oil”, but many are left to wonder if it really is a worthwhile supplement, or another over-marketed scheme to get people to buy the product. Let me tell you, there is no bigger skeptic than me when it comes to “miracle pills” or “wonder supplements”, I believe in good ol’ fashion exercise and healthy nutrition habits to enhance optimal body functioning. However, after some research and my own trial, fish oil now holds a special place in my morning routine. Let me tell you what I have learned about why Fish Oil really can be beneficial to add to your diet.
Improves your physical health:
Fish Oil has a high concentration of Omega 3 fatty acid, which is the power house of the supplement. Omega 3 fatty acids have been proven to reduce inflammation by regulating the inflammation cycle, which in turn can prevent or relieve the pain from conditions such as arthritis. It can help improve your cardiovascular health by reducing blood pressure and cholesterol levels, which can add years to your life expectancy. It has also been proven to reduce risk of stroke and heart attack by helping to breakdown blood clots in arteries. In addition, Fish Oil has been linked with protecting the nervous system, which can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s. As if that wasn’t enough, Omega 3 fatty acids have also been show to inhibit cellular growth of cancer cells. What does that mean for your health? It means reduced risk of the top three cancers; breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer. Sounds pretty great to me!
Improves your mental health:
One of the Omega 3 fatty acids found in Fish oil, DHA, has been linked with limiting the effects of depression, bipolar, and psychosis. The link was found between lower levels of DHA and higher rates of these mood disorders and psychosis. Thus, taking a supplement high in DHA will help to ward off all three. Fish Oil has also been proven to greatly improve memory, recall, and focus. This is where my own personal experience comes into play. The one benefit I noticed immediately from taking fish Oil was my increased focus. Now, by 11am I can always tell if I have forgotten to take my Fish Oil because I get distracted and sidetracked much easier.

Great news for both guys and gals, Fish Oil not only makes your hair nice and shiny, it also prevents hair loss! Fish Oil also slows the aging process by preventing wrinkles and increasing flexibility of the skin. It helps to prevent eczema, acne, dryness, and redness of the skin. In addition, Omega 3 fatty acids found in Fish Oil help to increase the effectiveness of exercise. Individuals who were taking a Fish Oil supplement combined with exercise were found to have lost significantly more weight than those who did not take the supplement but did exercise.
